Landing distance required for return to departure
JAR 1.515 requires the 60% rule for landing distances to be applied for the destination and any alternate airport. My question is does this include the departure point in the case of an emergency return?

In an emergency usually if you can TO if you could also land reasonably well---
because most Air regulation [I do believe this is universal]---allow the PIC to deviate from legal requirements---To the extent neccesary---to face that emergency----so LDR---requirements shouldn't matter---in fact in USA regulations---part 91 LDR--is written such that it includes no margin--although sensible pilots leave a margin;)---although FAR 25 ships operated under air carrier rules don't usually publish such data--it's easy to calculate---although it's like apples and oranges it is comforting to know you do have a rather large 'emergency' margin available----but you'd better have bona fide emergency--- PA |
