Winds Aloft Numerical Data Access
I'm wondering if anyone knows of any sources for machine-parseable winds aloft data. Something like a winds aloft equivalent to the NOAA FTP service for METARs (example)
Thanks in advance. |
Sure, GFS, you can find the raw data at
http://nomad5.ncep.noaa.gov/ncep_data/index.html however, enjoy parsing the files.... |
free or subscription?
If it is free then beware. No cash, no liability.
I get data from Maquarie University but I pay for it. South Africa, Meteo France are good and reasonable. I also have an arrangement with NOAA. A very famous old-established firm under the aegis of Company "B" will provide you with a tailored personal package for $45,000 per annum. Very reasonable in my view:rolleyes: Sadly the people who collect data want paying for it even, and dare I say it especially, in a certain UN organisation. So free, warrantied and trustworthy it ain't. Try NOAA again, even in these "threatballs" days the person you speak to might be nice. |
Hi, thanks for the replies.
Of course I'd totally forgot about the GFS. Silly me :ugh: cirr737, are you having any specific difficulties parsing the GRIB data? wgrib and grads together with a bit of shell scripting seem to do the job just fine. |
