L-1011 Aux Fuel

I am looking for a set of the old L-1011 Aux fuel tanks. I know Delta had them in the day. I am sure they are all removed and collecting dust somewhere. Anyone have a clue?

flyboyike 7th May 2007 19:44

What, if I may ask, would you do with them?

Tristar aux tanks

Chips,

I know that in the 70's BA was a 10-11 operator and some of its a/c eventually went to Gulf Air - but I dont think they used aux tanks, although they certainly did the 'two engines on one wing ferry' thing, which is wierd.
Like VC-10s before them, others went to the Royal Air Force for use as transports and (I think) tanker conversions. So I would be willing to bet that the UK and 'MOD surplus' agencies would be a very good place to start looking.

Get real. The flight decks have developed measles with the amount of spots indicating ADFs and the like. The MOD have very few spares, it was too expensive to keep them.

I think you will find Delta never used auxiliary tanks on their L-1011's, however, they did on their MD-11's.

The RAF has auxiliary tanks in their L-1011 tankers and tanker/freighters. The RAF auxiliary tanks designed, built and installed by Marshall Aerospace, so you may want to check with them. Marshall also built the MD-11 tanks for Delta.

Denzil 7th May 2007 21:56

Marshalls also involved in the design & build of the B747-400ER & B777-200LR tanks!

As for the TriStar, other than the RAF tanks installed in the cargo bay, the only other option was the amount of dry/wet sections of the centre wing box.

PM,

Thanks for the reply and interesting information. I was always fond of the L-1011 and hated to see it go. I am suprised at how little Data is available out there on this machine. Still looking........

I will check it out and post my findings here. It has become a mess with SFAR 88. I am betting most STC holders are going to turn in their STC's rather than comply. This has been brewing since TWA 800 and everyone has been sitting on their hands as far as I can tell. Come December I think there will be some unhappy operators out there.

chips737, check out http://www.eucomairlines.de and http://www.trijets.net/tristar/ Holger and Ryo do a great job of keeping up with the L-1011.

Aux Tanks

Chips,
Delta used long range tanks in the C2 hold of 3 of their L1011-500.
The tanks were made by Marshall in UK and approved by Delta under an EO.
The tanks were of course removable but the plumbing stayed in the aircraft.
Assuming you need these for the Venetian -500 aircraft and 411 has the tanks you will have the following problems
1. Getting approved data especiallly under SFAR 88
2. Finding the plumbing to Tee into the Aircraft system.

Good luck !:}

I appreciate the replies here. Love this site. Will see what 411 has to offer up....

Aux Tank Fun

This SFAR 88 is a disaster. It will be interesting to see how it all comes out.

I flew as Flight Mech for a couple years on a 737-200 that had an old ATS AUX system in it that held 15000 pounds of fuel. JT-8-17's on it. It is a Saudi VIP bird. I eneded up with a belly full of fuel christmas day 1999 due to a Boo Boo by a MRO in England. Inserting a Picture here and hope it works. Ouagadougo Burkinia Faso is not the place to break down...... ..http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/inde...mageID=2654906 VP-CHK aka ShwarmaOne
