A340-600

What is the maximum number of seats (with charter inch, around 30) that could be installed on the Airbus A340-600?

From the French type certificate:

6.8 - Maximum number of passengers seats
The maximum number of passengers approved for emergency evacuation is 440 for A340-600 and 375 for A340-500.

I wonder who Popay knows that are squeezing in 475? :)

vapilot2004 23rd February 2007 21:19

30in? Not too many tall people on this charter? ; )

I would guess between 400 and 425 - give or take a few rows.

OverRun, I suggest you read the limitation Vol 3 it says
max number of pax seats 475 with over wing exits and 440 without.
I usually just read the book.

Vol 3 it says
max number of pax seats 475
Is that with or without Lavs and Galleys? :}

OverRun 24th February 2007 18:46

There seems to be more than one book to read. The French have an emergency evacuation limit of 440, as I mentioned above. The FAA type certificate has:

Number of Seats:
The maximum number of passengers approved for emergency evacuation is 379 passengers with a 4 pair of Type A and 1 pair of oversize Type III exits configuration.

Does this mean that Vol 3 (not sure what this is) allows the aircraft to operate beyond its certified limits?

OverRun, hi there. Well without trying to make a science out of that it's flight crew operating manual VOL 3 section limitation. Don't know anything more than that. By the way it's JAR approved.
vapilot2004, hey if you take out the cockpit and make it an unmanned mission you can fit 10 pax more.;)

Ho popay, if the opportunity arose to discuss this with the Airbus support person for your operator, I would be very interested in their answer.

The 440/379 limit is passenger numbers with the over wing doors operating. I just wonder if the 475 limit provides for 35 crew (which is rather more than the 12-15 crew I suspect is normally used).
