A380 - so whats the low down???

The A380 delays have a line of Airbus bossfellahs falling on their swords, citing complications with the premium class entertainment systems wiring (I think). Can this really be the whole story? Sure, large modern aircraft must have complex power systems but to cause these kinds of delays? Sounds like the tip of an iceberg to me.

Airbus has apparently got some very hot ISO9000 procedures but there could still be some deep rooted fundamental design blooper not picked up by the procedures.

My hunch is too many boy wonder project managers and not enough experienced old school designers there...

Any information out there???

Aw, it's the same old thing - "lost in the translation": two different CAD/CAM systems churning out reams of drawings but not on the same design system, causing download anomolies and manual corrections. Then they chase their tails to figure out which one's right, when integration to the same system would certainly be the answer. Addressing these types of corrections is NOT as simple as it appears - one must correlate info from both systems into one, THEN extrapolate which one is right and wrong and go on from there (integration process).

And yes, Airbus is into the ISO's (and Six Sigma), but on the EU side it's AS/EN9100 - same thing, different regional translation (tongue in cheek). It's the procedures (EN9100 + 6sig) that will determine how to address the design flaw. They'll get there. :D

Cheers, y'all.

Just heard that RR have stopped producing the A380's engines for a year.

Project engineering groups and the build staff have all 'done very well' - please look elsewhere for blame.

perhaps - Management would be a good place to start......

I Remember.......

i am so so so so so glad that airbus is so so so so far behind, especially after their many years bad mouthing Boeing with such arrogance and prepotency....anyone thats been to their CRM course at tolouse knows that its really a Boeing put- down session in disguise, but...........
now lets let them yarn out their wiring problems so thousands dont lose their jobs, because if it comes to that its downright clear they´ll take it out on the workingman, not the top dogs who are to blame from the start for their arrogance and lsck of practicality.

Is it really (only) a wiring problem.......?

Sorry guys but I just don't buy this for one minute.

If the problem was the wiring for the entertainment system, then they could launch the aircraft on schedule, give every premium passemger a free dvd player as a gift to keep, and half a dozen dvd's of their choice to go with it along with a dvd burned with the days current news, and still be better of than they will be by delaying for a year.

I just don't believe it, there must be more to it than that.

If it's not wiring, then could it be a weight problem? Maybe the 'Where?bus 380' will not have the bowling alleys and gyms and jacuzzis that the marketing geniasses would like??
Perhaps it's time for the inevitable rebranding of the aircraft, so that the travelling public (who usually can't tell a 747 from a DC10) will forget the troubles and think it is a new concept (reinvent itself -that nauseating phrase). May I suggest the following :- Airbus Bigfoot or Airbus Yeti - to reflect it's rarity? I suppose the Airbus Dodo might seem a little harsh!
