B757 tyre bursts.
Could anyone out there give some guidance on tyre bursts on large jets, specifically 757's/767's.
I am a TRE on the 757 and regularly discuss this scenario or carry it out on the simulator. I have never experienced a tyre burst and would like to discover how realistic the simulation is and also discuss other aspects, so if you have a story I would love to read it. Specifically 1) Did you feel/hear the tyre burst on take off or landing? 2) Any other indications of the tyre burst? 3) Did you retract the gear? 4) What was the effect on braking/directional control? I have always taught not to retract the gear following a tyre burst as I would be wary of the affects of bringing lumps of rubber into the gear bay and risking either further damage to the aircraft or jammming the gear up in the bay. Any thoughts or experiences? Thanks in advance, J Seagull. |
As an aside, a couple of years ago a B737-400 taxied into stand for a nightstop. One of the mainwheel tyres was definitely flat. When I asked the crew about it, they did not understand me and had to come out and look at it because they did not believe me.
