ITCZ
I can't find a suitable forum to post this, so i've put it here
instead. Why is ITCZ position clearly marked over AFRICA only, on the sig-wx charts? Everyone knows that the ITCZ extends through Arabian peninsular towards the himalayas and Japan in Summer. |
I don't know if this is current, but the Africa Sig Wx charts used to be published by Paris, and the French are known eccentrics. They used to label the ITCZ as the FIT.

I have a less excentric answer:
The ITCZ causes much more TS and rain over the African mainland than over the Arabian peninsula. Coming closer towards the Indian subcontinent, the influence of monsoon streams are of more importance for the correct interpretation of weather information. Thus we could assume that the ITCZ is very important over Africa, while in other regions it is less. The same applies for the Americanas. It 's clearly marked over the Carribean Seas. Any suggestions? Dani |
