Nitrogen generator,is that a goody?

Hi gentelman:
Said, latest B744 will have a nitrogen generator in stalled on their #3 pack,is that a goody?:confused:

Not sure what the outcome will be on this (regulatory stage still), however the 787 will come with inerting systems from the factory due to the composite construction and lightning protection.

definitely can't hurt we don't want another flt 800 on our hands (if that was the true cause, that's all i'll say cuz REALLY don't know and yes I've read the report)

Fuel inerting. Ok. The US NTSB was never able to adequately explain how a fuel pump system could have allowed a spark to result in such a disaster. When has this happened before, without a static discharge from near a thunderstorm? I.E. the KC-135 returning to the squadron in Chicago many years ago. And this was NOT a 747.

For the very clever and resourceful out there: find out whether it is true that a US Navy ship Skipper and X.O. (on duty near N.Y.C) were relieved of command immediately after the TWA jet was destroyed.

Was it the USS Maryland?

And why personnel within a certain US intelligence agency are told to not even ask about the tragedy.:oh:

Ignition Override: wow you got bigger B*lls than me !!! if feel we are both in slight disbelief over TWA 800 :hmm:, but I'm afraid to reap the consequences on Pprune.

Because,

I HAVE A BIG MOUTH!!!....... A BIG MOUTH :} :} :}

If it is indeed true that Boeing are considering a nitrogen generator installed on their #3 pack, it does sound like a good idea, but it had better be very very fool-proof.

Considering that the source of the Nitrogen is to be one of the A/C Packs, the 1 in 100,000 chance does exist that that pack may be the only operative pack, and extreme caution must be taken in the design process to ensure that the Nitrogen produced can never be supplied to the cabin.

Some years ago, NASA were purging a fuel cell with pure Nitrogen (normal procedure for many areas of industry), and several technicians entered the fuel cell unaware that the cell was still a Nitrogen rich environment. All died, very peacefully.
