747 fuel system

OK, would like to know why a 747 does not transfer fuel rearwards like an airbus to maintain aft C of G? Is it because they dont have to, or because they cant? If it is because they dont have to, why? Is it because they already have minimal down load at the tail, or a typically rear C of G?

Any help appreciated

Cheers P.R.:ok:

Don't have to. Normal transfer sequence keeps the CG within normal limits.

As I understand it, that was not the intent of the question -

I would assume that normal fuel transfer keeps the CG within normal limits, I'd be very surprised if it didn't!

My understanding of the Q is, does the B747 transfer fuel aft to load the tail for better long range fuel economy.

Forgive me if I've misunderstood this Q.

Cheers, FD :bored:

No.

Does the bus have to do this to achieve claimed fuel specs?
