Sliding in silently
You know, I could be so wrong, but it seems to me that when I am downtown in Rome, every time I hear an aircraft extend spoilers, when I look up I see a beautiful harp.
Also, when I watch the lovely Boeings and Airbi rolling into LIRA for R/W 15, the only ones who don’t have the gear down (at about 4-3 miles out) also have a harp, if I see correctly of course. I know that cleanliness is next to godliness and a little about energy management, but why doesn’t EZY or Wizz or the IAF or the USAF or anybody else do it ? What’s the secret ? Can anyone enlighten me ? old Trek doubter. |

Your helpful reply
Well,
Thank you Farrell, That is such a help. |
My airline has a very strict stability criteria at 500' where we must be fully configured with thrust levers at normal approach setting otherwise a go around must be flown or we get in deep trouble. Unfortunately this normally precludes lowering the gear as late as sometimes we would like. Result as you point out is a noisier approach for a longer period of time.
