Amazing Video

Apologies if this has been posted before.. And mods, feel free to move to whatever forum you feel appropriate...

Enjoy!

The African Dude 31st March 2005 16:27

Oh c***, think I just s*** myself!!! was meant to originally be the reply.

But by God man, that's no flying, that's a really really powerful engine with an equally brilliant man & woman hangin on for dear life.

Great, really wonderful video.

egsc_h17 31st March 2005 23:44

I've seen that done with models before but not with an actual aircraft. The control surfaces exist pretty much to deflect airflow from the prop - I don't think lift enters into the equation!

canuck slf 1st April 2005 03:42

Great video and well made.
Thanks for posting.

Continuous Ignition 1st April 2005 13:41

LGB 21st April 2005 05:24

If the link above doesn't work (as it didn't right now), try http://www.rapp.org/wp-content/032805-haute_voltige.wmv - is that the same video? (about 20 MB)

Wizofoz 21st April 2005 06:25

The Lady featured at the begining is Svetlana Kapijana, who has twice placed third in the overall standings at the World Aerobatic Championships, flying a SU-31 with a Vendelev M-14PF (450HP).

I think the other pilot is also one of the russians, which is interesting as he's flying a German built (and registered) Extra 300s.

The event is one of the FAI Grand Prix of Aerobatics, which seem to primarily be held in Asia, mainly because regulatory authorities in the west would C%$£ themselves over event like this!!!:O  :O

LGB 21st April 2005 07:34

So, it is not the same video as in the first post of this topic?

brain fade 21st April 2005 08:33

Very Impressive!:ok:

So, it is not the same video as in the first post of this topic?
I don't know whether it's the same one since the original one was not there when I tried it :{ but the one I just watched left me breathless. A trully wonderful piece of precision flying and a video very well-made. Thanks for sharing it.

*CORRECTION*

After much frustration, I have discovered that the file is MUCH too large for even Gmail at 19.5 mb's. Gmail limits you to 10 mb's on files.

So unless someone can host it on a server my only other option would be a file transfer via AOL Instant Messenger.

If you have AIM and still would like it, send me your screen name and I will try to send it to you. But you have to be online and able to accept the transfer.

Miserlou 23rd April 2005 19:04

I saw the vid when the original link worked but to my dismay forgot to move it to another folder before exitting Firefox; I've set things up to be deleted whenever I close the program.

Now I get a 'cannot play video...codec not found' message.

Any computer nerds knnow how to get around this? It is an excellent video!

Continuous Ignition 23rd April 2005 20:03

Download and install the free program from this site.

Divx Video Player

Ibanez 23rd April 2005 20:16

Take that link that was given by LGB (http://www.rapp.org/wp-content/032805-haute_voltige.wmv ) and play it using Real player V 10 (I think it's freeware). Real player downloads the video onto your computer. (20mb) AWWWESOME video - THANX!

I.

Miserlou 23rd April 2005 22:07

Thanks for your help, chaps.
DivxPlayer didn't recognize the format but I got it by entering the link address into the RealPlayer address space and it downloaded automatically.

It's now safely stored!

EasyBaby 24th April 2005 23:36

Does anyone know how to find out the soundtrack on the video? There is a piece of music on there that i've been trying to track down for ages!! Its near the end begins 4.40 into the movie and lasts till 5.40.

Anyone????

Cheers
EB;)

eagerbeaver 26th April 2005 12:33

when the piece of music you like is playing dial 2580 and send in your mobile, a company called shazamm the text the author and title of the song, if they dont know its free and you get a credit or something.

2 5 8 0 send, works a charm

supermunk 2nd May 2005 16:50

I think that the music is by L Mckennith (similar to Clannad and Enya) I don't know which track If anyone finds it could they post it here as I'd like to get a copy as well.
To see more details of his amazing videos look at Lionel Charlet's site at http://www.lionelcharlet.com/
The DVDs don't seem to be available in the UK but can be ordered over the net.

Tonic Please 4th May 2005 15:47

eagerbeaver - can you elaborate on that mobile thing.. how the hell do they know what you are listening to????

Conan the Librarian 4th May 2005 16:06

Great video, but wasn't the direction superb? Makes a wonderful addition to a growing aviation video collection. I take my hat off to all involved - including the film crew.

eagerbeaver 4th May 2005 20:53

it is a way of identifying a piece of music you have no idea what it is.

Try this :

1) turn on the radio

2) Get mobile and dial 2 5 8 0

3)hold mobile to speaker and press send

4)hold to speaker for 20 secs or so (you will see the phone has hung up)

5)wait a little bit

6)recieve text message giving you the song details.

easy peasy

supermunk 4th May 2005 22:04

It'll probably come back with an answer like, "400 hp engine-sorry I couldn't hear the music"

Tonic Please 4th May 2005 22:05

Sorry had to burst out laughin at that one.. lucky i didnt spit my midnight mouthful of cerial onto my girlfriends laptop!! :}

DUBXH 4th May 2005 22:26

dusk2dawn 6th May 2005 15:43

To see more videos go to www.lionelcharlet.com These DVDs aren't available yet in the UK but can be obtained from www.alapage.fr The "Fusion" video can be obtained from the Air-Shop der Luftwaffe-CH in Bern. This guy is truly brilliant in his interpretation of flight. I've been an editor for years and all I can say is "I wish that I'd done this"
