737 Attitudes/speed
Can anyone tell me the attitudes at various speeds and bank angles , engine failure on t/o etc. as I am about to do a sim ride for a job and not 737 rated.

wow, this could be an lenghty answer, but iŽll try to keep it short.
Its all dependant on weight ofcourse. I know nada about 737 Classic, but approach speeds for -800 flaps 40 is in the range between 130-150 kts and attitude just above zero. Thrustsetting around 60ish % should do the job. On a Flap 30 approaches a pitch of 2-2.5 degrees should do the job, and thrust just below 60%. Levelflight require u to fly a few degrees nose up dependand on configuration. Basically scan scan scan scan scan during your simride, its not hard if you scan. Just be aware of the pitch - thrust connection on the 737. Single engine takeoffs calls for a lot off rudder, as for any airplane, a bit slower rotation than normal and you should be airborne before you can say "carlsberg". again for the 800
set these up quickly and let it settle down. attitudes as before.mid range weights power on approach 30 flap 57% 40 flap 63% level flight 5 degrees pitch pwr 57/65/72 % ..clean/ 5 flap / 15 gear down respectively. for the purpose of a check flight on an ils, at the first oppurtunity (asap) get to ldg config above , follow the ils and the plane will settle down, and do the rest. dont try and be clever. dive and drive and fly the numbers. for efato 13 degrees pitch ( theoretical when your stressed) follow the fd, lots of boot, gear up and fly away. best to rotate visualy and transition to fd when you have got your head around the initial pitch and rudder, in other words dont fly the fd off the gnd.fly it off to 15 feet like any plane and transition to fd asap. good luck |

3 deg G/S, flaps 30, pitch attitude (vref + 5):
-200, -300 and -500: 3.4 deg -400: 3.1 deg 3 deg G/S, flaps 15, pitch attitude (vref + 5): -200: 5.4 deg -300: 5.5 deg -400: 4.7 deg -500: 5.7 deg Target body attitude after liftoff (engine out, sea level, std day + 27 deg, gear up, flaps 5): -200: 14.2 deg -300 & -500: 14.8 deg -400: 14.5 deg Gross wt -200: 97,000 lbs, -300 & -500: 110,000 lbs, -400: 121,000 lbs. 60 degree steep turns:
Enter at 250 Kts, as you roll through 10 degrees, add 10% N1 and keep the pitch at +5 degrees. Tiny adjustments of pitch and thrust and the aircraft will just sit there - use 15 degrees as a lead in for rolling out - if you've trimmed in the steep turn (not recommended by Boeing - but possible and comfortable to fly) then watch the rollout in terms of pitch. Adding to what has been said before: if you've flown any under-slung jet before, the strength of the rudder on the 737 may come as quite a surprise (it's powerful). On an engine failure - add in a little rudder and use aileron to fly wings level - then add in the rudder slowly and steadily and trim it out to a level control column. For the -800, use a rudder trim target of 12 units for full power (take off, g/a) and then 5 units once in level flight and not accelerating. |
If your'e going on the 737 at Cranebank, I was given these power / pitch couples by the simulator literature 3 weeks ago.....
These are rough estimates, 2 engines operative in Zero wind. The weight was 55 T. These figures should give you these speeds - it did for me! I'm told that if in doubt, go for +5 and 55% to bail you out...
