engine ferrying pods
i'm sure somebody will know, are there any other airliners that can accomodate an 'extra' engine under-wing for ferrying, like the 747? just curious as i've never heard it mentioned.;)

"5th engine ferry" fairly common on the 707 in 60s & 70s. Special section in performance manual. Also 3 engine ferry not uncommon.
If memory serves someone (John Cunningham?) also did a 2 engine ferry on a Trident out of Geneva I think on 05 with a long climb out over the lake. |
VC10 and L1011 (fourthpod in that case!!) to name but two.

There's no need to have a fifth eng pod on the 747-400 as it takes off and flies perfectly well on three.
Three engine ferries are now a non event. |
