B733 flightdeck question
 

Hi guys.

In the flight deck of the B733 there is a probe that sticks through the top of the glareshield on each side, and points forward out of the window. I remember it was covered in passing on the ground school, but not in any notes I have.

I seem to remember it is a light sensor or something. Any ideas?

From the AOM:
Two remote light sensors, located on the instrument glare shield, adjust brightness of the associated EADI and EHSI as a function of light coming through the forward windows.

Now that's what I thought, and seem to remember, yet ther doesn't seem to be a reaction when you cover them up in daylight. Besides, there is a rheostat for EFIS brightness....

Believe it to be a combination of those sensors and the ones mounted on the EFIS displays themselves......Not at home so no tech manuals.....

Track is spot on.

Try covering/uncovering them whilst flying directly towards very bright sun. Then (and in my experience, only then), will you notice the difference.

BTW, if you use the Coalville simulator, they have installed these small devices the wrong way around!
