Usability of FMS interface
 

I am investigating usability problems pilots are having with the FMS Control Display Unit. I would welcome any comment from the forum on significant usability problems that pilots have, or are experiencing, with CDU interfaces.

I have proposed a set of design guidelines that are based on established human-computer interface principles and known problems with the current generation of CDUs. I need to validate these through the use of a short survey that I have constructed. I would appreciate it greatly if people could take the time to fill one out (20 min). Just e-mail me, and I will send a copy (virus checked OK). I believe the guidelines will stimulate your own thoughts on better ways to design the CDU interface.
