DC9

Could any kind DC9 Jock out there give me a rough idea of EPRs/Speeds/Flap etc. for DC9 in the cruise and approach. Info may help in a sim ride which could take me out of a life of poverty and night freight!
Thanks in advance.

Fuel fow > 6000 lbs/hr > 100 lbs/min

Approach Maneuvering > 15 flap > 1.2 EPR

Approach 40 flap > 1.3 EPR to hold speed.

Approach 50 flap > 1.4 EPR to hold speed.

Good Luck.

Rog that. Enjoy it. It's a real pilot's airplane. Fun to fly!

Can't remember much, a real 'yes' aeroplane, anything atc want the answer is yes! Terrific flap schedule, slows down a treat. Engine failure totally untraumatic and very well built. Get to know the pneumatic x-feed duct and the AC cross tie lockout (behind fwd cabin crew Jumpseat) and you'll be fine!
A real classic - enjoy.

Just watch out for the ballooning effect when you select flap 15.....anticipate it a little by checking forward on the stick.
Its one of the great classics, and if you ever get the opportunity to fly a real one instead of the sim, Go For It !

Good Luck, DCD

I always used 68-70%N1 for flp 40 two engine and flp 15 se approaches,.because EPR is not always useful above sea level for landing. If they throw high alt airports at you, use EPR for takeoff, and N1 for landing. The key: SET IT AND FORGET IT!

A book called "Fly The Wing" by the (recently departed) James Webb might be of use, had a lot of DC-9 performance hints and tips in it when I leafed through it recently.
