B 737 Q.R.H.

B737 QRH LANDING GEAR LEVER JAMMED IN THE UP POSITION there is a note" the following checklist should not be accomplished with less than 3,800 Kgs of total fuel. Land with gear up or land with any available gear if less than 3800 Kgs total fuel is available my question is why?

BOEING 737 -300 BOEING QUICK REFERENCE HANDBOOK NON-NORMAL CLECKLIST BY BOEING

This was covered in depth recently by the Bluecoat forum (Bill Bulfer's 737 internet site)- I can't remeber the address off hand but I'm sure it's easy to find.

Anyway, the official Boeing answer was that that amount of fuel was deemed the minimum necessary to complete the checklist and land safely. Any less than that and it was consideder better to not enter into the lengthly checklist when the time could be better spent preparing the a/c for landing.

Oh, and it's found in the Boeing Master Non normal checklist - not your average on board version. It's the kind of advice that would be passed onto you from ground based engineers.

Hope this helps!

A fuel quantity of 3800 kg was determined to provide adequate fuel reserves
to complete the "LANDING GEAR LEVER JAMMED IN THE UP POSITION" checklist,
lower the gear and verify all landing gear are down and locked, complete
an approach to land, go-around with all landing gear in the extended position,
and still have sufficient fuel available to land.
