A319/20/21 FLIGHT
TO AIRBUS PILOTS:
What is a standard flight regarding the flight controls ,from taxi ,takeoff ,climb, cruise, decent, landing , rollout ,taxi ? When they say the inputs from the side sticks are summed what does that mean ? Thanks for your help |
The side sticks are electronically monitored for position, and the output to the flight surface is the result of the "sum" of the left and right side sticks. This means that if the left side stick is selected a given amount to right wing down (as an example), and the right side stick is selected the same amount of deflection to left wing down, the output to the flight controls is neutral. In the event of a failure or emergency, either side stick may be overridden to allow the summing to be terminated.

There are several laws in which the aircraft may be operated.
Pitch : Normal law, alternate law with reduced protections, alternate law without protections and direct law. Roll : Normal law, roll direct law with yaw alternate law and roll direct law with yaw mechanical control Normal law (standard) provides following protections and functions: Pitch : -AOA-Protection -High speed protection -Load factor protection -Pitch Attitude protection functions : -Automatic pitch trim -Unusual attitude protection. Roll: -Bank angle protection functions : -Turn coordination -Yaw damping -Side slip target for one engine out -Unusual attitude protection Stick deflection in normal law demands: Ground mode : Direct Surface deflection demand Flight mode : G-load demand (1G = level flight) (below 50 feet changeover to) Flare mode : Pitch attitude demand (after 5 sec on GND AND pitch <2.5° changeover to) Ground mode : Direct surface deflection At the end: Pull stick and the houses get smaller, push stick and they get bigger again. |
