MLS ... dead or alive?
I don't fly a lot to Europe at the moment, but I was wondering if any of you out there ever fly MLS approaches. I know that AMS (EHAM) has one. Is there anything special/interesting about it (besides the mandatory ground school facts)? e.g. lower landing miniums, difference CATs, reduced a/c separation?
IF there are people out there flying those, what kind of receivers (make & model) do you use? |
The MLS is also capable of multiple curved approach paths too!
And perhaps most importantly it was an AUSSIE invention as well!! |
EHAM no longer has the MLS approach...

Dying. Eventually to be superceeded by DGPS. (Differential GPS where a local ground transmitter retransmits a more accurate GPS signal).
BA had MLS receivers in their 744s, switch now inop. The RN use it on their carriers for their Sea Harrier ops though. [ 02 December 2001: Message edited by: Dan Winterland ] |
