You new to the 74 series?
Or you transitioning from an older model to the -8?

If you can lay your hands on some resources for the 747-400, you'll find the flight deck differences between the -400 and the -8 are pretty minimal. Obviously 747-8 specific would be even better, but I suspect -400 resources are more readily available.

Having flown both, practically the difference between the two is absolutely minimal in flying. The 747-8 is designed to simulate flying the -400 (stop laughing in the back those of you that have done both).

I doubt there will be any manuals worth reading that will make your life better.

The big difference is electronic checklist discipline. And unfortunately no manual in the world can teach you that. You just need to practice it and learn the one giant gotcha (sorry I won’t tell you what it is, i’ll leave that to your procedure trainers).

please let us know the giant gotcha 😅 just transition from the 787 so already used to electronic checklist I hope it’s similar advanced ECL.

Get familiar with the procedures around ECL questions that require YES NO. The way it’s worded can be very confusing especially in a diverse flight deck.

Something like. “THERE IS NO INDICATION OF A FIRE YES/NO” so YES there is NO indication.

take extra time especially in a busy workload environment.

yes you are right. on the 787 it’s asked twice to confirm there is no indication…
and the next would be there is indication…

but not too sure yet how it will work on 747-8
