Information to be passed upon first contact with London

Once upon a time, both LIDO and Jepp charts used to detail which information pilots are to transmit upon first contact with Approach Radar/Director when coming into London airports. As far as I can tell, that information has been removed. The result is more and more pilots are calling up without passing any information other than cleared level/altitude. Controllers are then having to request additional information such as Aircraft Type (ATIS info and QNH they can obviously pass on). Flying with European colleagues, I keep reminding them to state the QNH (if we are already descending to Altitude), Aircraft Type and ATIS Information (letter). They are naturally questioning me about where it's stated. Anyone know the background here?

Thanks

This is what we received - copied the quote from our notice:

Aircrew should note that from 11 May 2022, pilots no longer need to report aircraft type on first contact with Director for arrivals into LTMA airfields. If ATC need the type confirming they will ask the pilot to confirm. There is no change for departures.
Didn't state any further source, but apparently was distributed to operators.

Too bad… just loved when (rarely) Ryanair omitted to state aircraft type and was questioned about it :}

Only was an ATCO for a short 4 years before I started flying, and that was quite a while ago. Still, never seen a strip without the aircraft type. Why would ATC ever have to ask????

I believe one of the reasons the Learjets went back to using registration rather than Ryanair x call signs was confusion over aircraft type and wake spacing.

Airport information charts states whether you should say something extra or not. Obviously that's gonna be more or less around it but includes approach / control etc... So there might be your answer.
