USA phraseology cat 2/3 ils clearance - help

What is the specific phraseology used in the US and A when cleared for a cat 2/3 ils approach? Have flown a few cat 3 in Canada, but so far not in the usa. I dug though the far and aim, but no joy. Thanks

There’s no difference. They’ll clear you for the ILS to runway XX. it’s up up to the pilots to figure out if they have the required visibility. You’ll probably hear “low visibility operations in effect” on the ATIS but just means the Surface Movement Guidance and Control System is being used.

LVP’ are far more important than just SMGS ! If there are no LVP’s you can’t do any CAT 2/3 for real…

There is no phraseology difference for a Cat 2/3. You receive a normal approach clearance; it is up to the crew to review approach charts, notams, opspecs, aircraft MEL’s, etc to determine the appropriate approach minimums. Normally US/FAA ATC will automatically protect the ILS critical areas when weather conditions are less than 800 foot ceilings or 2 miles visibility, but it is up to the crew to advise ATC that an auto land is being conducted and to request they protect the critical area, if they are conducting one, especially in weather better than previously described.
