FAA AD lower windshield cracks.
This thread maybe more appropriate in Tech Log but I'm not sure so I put it here Sorry about the link... Everytime I use my phone to post I can't get an active link yet |

The entire article reads like it's written by someone who isn't terribly sure what an AD is, so for good measure he throws in an irrelevant reference to NPRMs and 737s. "Nonetheless [sic], airlines will be taking any of these airworthiness directives seriously. Undoubtedly, they will be ensuring that they exercise the right course of action as soon as possible." |
Nothing surprising or wrong with the AD. Not sure why the thread

Just general interest

It's nothing new, we've been doing this inspection for years as part of the ALI tasks.
It's a bit of pig to do, especially trying to remove the sealant in the centre post lower node area prior to the inspection. The repair used to be a big one involving replacement of the window frame(s) with all the associated strip including stress jacking the aircraft and removing the skin panels around the windows. I assume that the reinforcement repairs mentioned in the AD are a fairly new thing, I know Airbus were working on a repair scheme a year or two ago but I've never seen one done. It would certainly be preferable to replacing the window frames. |
