300k front folk for multi-pilot aeroplanes. Am I close, at least in the correct order?

I would suspect probably double that....

UK data for 2018 had some 16,100 ATPL/CPL holders for (A) and some 1500 (H) across all ages and sexes. I would suspect the US is an order of magnitude greater.

Be interested to know the exact number worldwide.

Spot on. FAA lists 162.000 ATPs for 2018 (last number available), and another 100.000 Commercial pilots. Those commercial pilots could work as FO for a regional, but must get their ATP when they upgrade. Also a number of those ATP holders are working in corporate flight departments. I would guess around 130.000 airline pilots total in the US.

Australi

Good question!
Active employed crew is that Your question?
Or Total Current Licenses with a valid medical?

Anyway
Try ICAO Statistics:
Commercial Air Carriers- Personnel
I would compare that with amount of valid medicals per country to get an idea.

Good luck

US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BTS.gov) said 124,000 in the U.S. in 2018. That's all commercial pilots. If you limit it to the largest U.S. airline and cargo operators it's 75,000. DL, AA, UA, SW, JB, NK, AK, FX, UPS. Regional airlines is frequently mentioned as approx. 18,000. So all airline size job totals, to include regional airlines, might be 100,000?

IATA might have overall aircraft or passenger counts (ASM/RSM) for the entire world. Figure out what percentage the U.S. has of the totals and using the numbers I provided might give you a reasonable estimate for your question.

Flight Global's World Airliner census would be another possible source, multiply the airframes * 12 people each.

The biggest 4 airlines in the U.S., based on the apc website airline profile data, have 53,000 pilots and 3,300 planes(approx.). That's 16 pilots per airplane. SW, with only one type and no long haul flying, has 13 per a/c. DL, UA, AA average 16.7 per aircraft.
