Electrical smoke odor while flying in a storm
Hey guys,
I wanted to share my experience and would be glad of some feedback. We were flying leveled around 35,000 ft through a line of TS when suddenly we perceived an electrical smoke odor, you can imagine what we felt and went through, but I remembered that a colleague had also experienced the same situation and told me that it was caused because of a fenomenom of ozone released by lightning. Fortunately such was the case and the odor disappeared after a few minutes. I have searched on the web about this phenomenon but I haven't found anything specific about it. Anyone there with some information? It would be very much appreciated, thanks! :ok: |
NASA article about lightning ozone production - specifically around 10km.
https://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/fe...lightning.html I've experienced this several times flying through the ITCZ; as you say it is sometimes rather noticeable! |
Thanks!!!:ok:
