A320 CONF 3 Take off FLAP 1 Climb
Hello,
Operator is mitigating bird impact damage (insurance liability) by selecting thrust red at 400' and accell at 3000'. On short RWYs we depart with CONF 3 which I hate to drag all the way to 3000' AGL What I would like to do is: accelerate at 400' AGL to F speed + 10 and select flaps 1, this will put me at VLS + 10 complying with a low speed high rate of climb and low drag profile to 3000' where I can accelerate to ECON. VLS + 10 for flaps 1 is almost equal to V2 for flaps 1, what do you thing about this practice? flying below S speed is only mentioned on FCTM for the approach scenario. Many thanks. |
What is wrong with Flap 3 to 3000 feet? You will find in the FCOM bank angle limitations if you are flying below a characteristic speed.

The better I understand the envelope the more tools I'll have.

How's about you just operate the Jet the way your Airline flight ops department and performance section dictate. You start fooling with your own procedure you're likely to screw up something or other and end up triggering an FDAP. Not to mention if something goes wrong you are hung out to dry.
Leave that to the test Pilots. K.I.S.S method |
Its not made up, this is how the engine out was flown on the 330 In Kathmandu,
Higher flap to leave the runway, lower flap to climb at low turn radius speed (185) reach the MSA and divert or try again. |
you can fly safely up to 20,000 with conf 3, not suggesting you would.
whats the problem with 3,000? And you have noise to consider too. Making it up as you go along just because you think it's a good idea probably isn't V |
