Braking Actions in Russia

Does Russia still use the normative (Russian) brake friction when reporting Snowtams, METARs for their airports? What about former Soviet (CIS) countries

Sir George Cayley 17th Feb 2016 18:34

да!

No. See AIP. Well, yes a little

Russian AIP
Appendix 3
4.8.1.5 b)*
The state of the runway is reported by
eight-digit group before TREND landing
forecast and also by eight-digit group or
in unencoded form in RMK group.
Note: * Recommended practices.

So you can meet any kind of runway state in weather reports
Today's ex:

UUEE 190900Z 15003MPS 9999 OVC007 M05/M07 Q1032 R06L/290151 R06R/290151 NOSIG
UIUU 190900Z 27008MPS 9999 FEW033CB M10/M19 Q1030 R26/811095 NOSIG RMK QFE727/0970
URKK 190900Z 06007MPS 9999 SCT/// 02/M04 Q1020 R05C/CLRD70 NOSIG RMK QFE762

A normative friction coefficient is widely practicable in Russia and CIS(Central Asian countries) as well

FlightDetent 19th Feb 2016 11:22

The AIP reference quoted above is for ICAO B.A. and f.c., as well as METARS. Basically anything that is published is ICAO.

Normative coefficients are long gone unless you operate in Russian language and you receive it over R/T.

Here's the AIP RF international edition: http://www.caiga.ru/common/AirInter/...p/html/eng.htm

Thank you guys, I have read Russian AIP, but according to my experience, runway state in weather reports is recorded in terms of russian normative coefficients at all russian airports except UUEE and UUDD. Any other experience?

Anvaldra 19th Feb 2016 12:42

FD, and yet a normative coefficient is still alive because all non-russian speaking operators have it as conversion to RBA according AIP table. The method of measuring is the same as in king zion time ;)

Viluch, a very limited number of airports more.

FlightDetent 19th Feb 2016 18:51

Anvaldra: I'd agree with you about 5 years ago, but not since. I believe Many operators still have the metric FL conversion tables in the books, yet RF is hapilly running on feet RVSM for quite some time.

I admit not having found your AIP Appendix 3 reference inside the document online. There used to be a conversion table in AIP but not any more. ICAO differences GEN 1.7? Nope.

Actually the old table had columns for "normative" and "SFT" / BA. You could hear exactly that on ATIS UUEE - in EN .MM measured by SFT; in RU - "normatyvnyj" 0,NN.

Anvaldra 20th Feb 2016 06:05

FD, you can find it here http://www.caiga.ru/common/AirInter/...d1/1-ad1-2.pdf
The measuring of friction coefficient is still the essential criterion for any conversion whatever you hear in ATIS or see in METAR
Best regards
