Flight Controls and Minimum Equipment list

Hello,
Generally or according to Airbus regulations

In the event of "one faulty aileron", the flight computer will operate the standby aileron until landing. If the pilot need to dispatch again, Is it possible to take off with only one operative aileron (the standby one is damaged) and the faulty aileron can be considered as MEL(Minimum Equipment list) ?

if this happen with one of secondary flight controls (Faulty spoiler/THS), It can be considered as MEL?

Thank you in advance

What does your MEL/DDG say?

Marcioa320 5th Aug 2015 04:37

It's not possible to dispatch because it'd be not airworthy! Primary flight controls are't shown on MEL, and cause this, are not allowed to dispatch.. It's possible to dispatch the aircraft with a pair of spoilers faulty but you gonna have some performace penalties, specially on landing distances..

Hello Masterhelwan,

Just to clarify. You are talking about a "faulty aileron" being taken over by a "stby aileron", or are you talking about the aileron actuators?

All Airbusses I flew don't have active and stby ailerons, only active and stby actuators. (depending on type the difference is there hydraulic, or elec source for actuation)

The actuators can be faulty. Dispatch according to MEL is allowed as long as the other actuator is available. This should answer the question as the requirement does not allow you to dispatch with both actuators faulty = aileron faulty.

Hope it sheds some light.

Hi All
i mean "faulty aileron actuator",
for B777 or A320 there are two actuators per aileron surface
I checked MEL of A320 for several companies, all of them do not mention flight controls. This should mean it is not possible to dispatch with only one actuator because the aircraft will be subjected to a high risk.

DutchOne << The actuators can be faulty. Dispatch according to MEL is allowed as long as the other actuator is available. >>
How does the aircraft dispatch with inoperative aileron actuator not listed in MEL?

Regards,

It doesn't.

A320 MEL in my possesion has well above 96 pages on Flight Controls, please check again.

The aircraft with ECAM indication F/CTL AIL SERVO FAULT may be dispatched under the provisions of MMEL 27-14-01/2/3/4 as applicable. For aileron hydraulic actuator see MEL 27-14-01/2/3/4 dtto.

Take care, stay calm and read MEL :ok:

Thank you FlightDetent

I was looking at compressed MEL documents of 200 pages, now i have the full MEL of 1700 pages.

Finally, yes it is possible to dispatch with one faulty aileron actuator for maximum of three days.

Indeed, Flight Detent, Chapter 27 seems pretty extensive.

I reckoned and wrote what I did being aware.;) Thouhg would really like to see a tech-log forum for pilots to discuss their questions and ridicule themselves sometimes, under the knowledgeable and tolerant oversight of likes of IFixPlanes or IGh*.

I am eager to help an aspiring soul, for I like to think of having had been one too, but please can we do that in a separate section - Aspiring Technical Expert Enthusiasts?

Moreover, certain geographical locations seem to provide posters who start their submissions regularly with axiomic statement (it is established that ..., we must do..., ) that is more often than not absolutely incorrect. Irks my nerves :\ everytime! Imagine poor Marcioa320, who got so scared reading the above that after 4 years of temperance made his first post.

Rant over, permission to leave
FD

* my thanks and respect to many others AMM, TSM and IPC Wizards!

I haven't seen IGh since forever. I remember his posts were very hard to read because he used a rather odd format.
