A320-Q1-Flap Lever

Its stated that " When Flap lever is in any other position than zero in flight , Idle rpm is increased (Approach Idle) and continuous ignition is activated "
Can anybody explain what exactly Airbus is doing here ? and why doing so ?

Be aware that your book is talking about IAE engines re the ignition. CFMs don't come on with flap.

Re APPR IDLE there is a certificated minimum time that the engine must achieve TOGA power during an approach. I think it's 6 seconds.

From THR IDLE (min power) which is desirable on descent to TOGA would be greater than six seconds, so they need to bump the idle up a bit when landing.

Wow Nice ! , Thank you CS.:ok:
Indeed the FCOM is related to IAE V2500.
I Wonder why CFM guys do not need Approach Idle for their engine ?

FL3 28th Apr 2014 08:27

CFM also increases N1 when flaps not at zero, but ignition is not activated.

You do get approach idle on the CFMs with flaps selected.

Yes, my sentence was badly written. Meant to say CFM ignition doesn't come on with flap.

And before you ask why ignition doesn't come on with CFM engines, that is because CFM is convinced that the FADEC will discover an impending rollback due flameout fast enough to bring on ignition in time to recover.
