Boeing 737 Aerodynamic Coefficient
Hi
I am studying the aerodynamic coefficients of a boeing 737-800 NG. In particular wingtip devices and have constructed a model in solidworks to test on Ansys cfd. I am creating a hypothetical situation of testing the improvement in take off performance by using winglets. To do this, i am simulating the 737 with and without winglets. I have the Ansys sim set at take off velocity and 8 degrees AoA. I am getting a Cl value of 2.5 and Cd of 0.3 i was wondering how far off that is to realistic values of cl and cd at take off? Thank you, i would really appreciate any insight. |
I have no data for the 737.
However in general a Cl max of 2.5 would be at the high end for wings - even in the landing configuration. I would be suspicious of more than 2 in the TO config. You should be able to check on typical airliner Cl max numbers fairly easily. |
Like John Farley, I have no B737 data. However, as a rough order of magnitude based on similar airplanes I would expect a CL around 1.4 for TO flap at 8 deg AoA and a Cd around 0.1

Aside from any models or variables, none of the various configurations of winglets from Boeing or Airbus, have any advertised effect on take-off performance. Sorry.
