AIRBUS task sharing - Paper checklists
Can anyone please clear up a grey area of Airbus operational philosophy for me please ?
When conducting a paper 'checklist', for example the MANUAL ENGINE START procedure from FCOM SUPPLEMENTARY PROCEDURES, who does and says what ? My guess is that the PNF reads the C/L, and the PF actions each item but I cant find specific reference to it, and it seems to contradict the task sharing during ECAM. I have also seen wild variations on how Captains run paper checklists out on line. Is there a standard way ? Is there a reference to back it up ? Thanks ! |
Perhaps FCTM?

Nothing in the FCTM that deals with this situation.... lots of good info re ECAM etc but paper procedures seem to be overlooked !

TaskSharing on GND - abnormal or supplementary
ForABNORMAL procedure on GND:
ForSUPPLEMENTARY techniques:
Howevre this is Airbus SOP. Individual Airline may have their own variations. |
Thankyou Vilas !
Thats exactly what I was after... That text is not in my FCTM.. Do you have a reference for it ? |
If you have access to Airbus world you can get the reference or ask your Airline to get it.

Same as vilas's post but...
...try to simplify anything Airbus by Boeingfying it with the KISS method -
1. Open your FCOM Supp to the drill required (eg man start, x-bleed, SE start/taxy, whatever) 2. PNF reads and both crew review (incl those pesky but bloody important notes and anything in italics) 3. Both drivers discuss and make totally clear who does what and when 4. Questions 5. When it comes time to carry out the drill - PNF reads, PF does (ie challenge-response) and PNF still crosschecks anything guarded That's my outfit's 320 SOP. |
Yep that's what we do on our Bus's for x bleed starts and other non normal ground stuff.
PM reads PF does. With the exception of Manual starts which must always be done by the Captain. :ok: |
With the exception of Manual starts which must always be done by the Captain. manual start - and if a problem the consequential Engine Start Fault proc that the Frogs decided to put elsewhere in that FCOM! That's two separate references one has to have open (PRO-SUP 70 and PRO ABN 70) for the one drill. :ugh: |
Hey not my thinking, the SUPP part of FCOM 3 states Manual Starts must always be done by elcapitano...:ok: Can't trust those lowly FO's :}
|
Hey Nitpicker - is that requirement for the CM1 to do the engine start a company SOP ? I cant find it in my AB docs ?
|
Hey I don't know, maybe my outfit stuck that bit in?
|
FCOMs are tailored to the Operator. In our mob it's ok to wrench a manual start
off a kid and do it yourself if you feel you should. Senior FOs I usually let do as most are competent and not afraid to speak up if he starts losing the plot (like if the APU ****s itself as the first engine lights up). |
