PJ-068 Microphone Connector

Hello everyone

My Telex Echelon 20 microphone connector broke, so I had to buy a replacement connector. This PJ-068 type connectors are a hard to find item (and expensive)!
I'm trying to find a solution to connect the cables to the correct terminals.
The microphone cord has only two connections, and the connector, according to the diagram, appears to have three terminals.
Where do I weld each wire?

Thank you very much in advance!

Hi

the tip is press-to-transmit, a hangover from the days of hand held mics. Mic connections are mic+, the ring behind the tip and mic-, the body of the PJ-068. So your blue wire goes to the ring, and braid to the body ('sleeve').

So, as the headsets doesn't have a PTT the tip terminal is useless, right?
The blue goes to the ring terminal, the braid to the sleeve terminal, and the tip remains empty. Am I correct?

The photo you have shown LOOKS LIKE a stereo headphone plug, and IS NOT a PL-068 or equivalent. I'm pretty sure the shank of your plug is 0.250" dia. and not 0.206". Better to measure and be sure.

There are WWII surplus PL-068s still available, but not easy to install because of the wire connections used (very small ring-type lugs).

Fair_Radio_dot_com has them - Cat. No. PL-68-U (doh!)

But as I've cautioned, making the connections isn't easy.

  1. On the left is the headset plug (0.25"/6.35 mm)
  2. In the middle is the old, broken, microphone plug (0.206"/5.25 mm)
  3. And on the right side is the new one that I bought, the same size of the old one!

If only I've found this earlier: XLR5 to GA headset adapter [Archive] - PPRuNe Forums
