Flight control check

Hi, guys!!!
Where do you usually do flight control check, prior or during taxi?

Capt Claret 30th Nov 2012 00:57

Douglas/Boeing 717, as per FCOM, during taxi.

Check Airman 30th Nov 2012 04:04

during taxi

DutchOne 30th Nov 2012 05:10

Depends. We do it normally during taxi, but if we have to wait for taxi clearance we do it after push back. Just make sure if your aircraft has aileron droop, to do it after flap extension.

BuzzBox 30th Nov 2012 06:52

During taxi normally, except during LVO, when it is done either before taxi or stopped at the holding point.

STBYRUD 30th Nov 2012 06:54

B737: Before taxi. Actually nothing is done anymore during taxi other than taxi in those procedures...

Piltdown Man 30th Nov 2012 07:06

Embraer 190, as per FCOM, before taxi.

B-747 on taxi, DC-8 on taxi and a 2nd elevator check at 80KTS on T/O.

Most manufacturers and companies have changed the SOP/check list over the years to before taxi.

one of the ideas being heads up eyes out during taxi plus reduced work load while aircraft is moving.

On the Fokker 50 the gustlock is removed and controls checked during lineup or in high winds after lineup. Mind you holding the stick in high winds is not a bad idea as the gust lock can fail :}

FougaMagister 8th Dec 2012 22:46

ATR42/72: during taxi.

Cheers

A few years back, the control checks were done during taxi on the B737 then changed to before taxi.
The change was made by Boeing and reason given was to decrease work load during taxi,so why do other Boeing aircraft do it during taxi? :hmm:

bubbers44 9th Dec 2012 01:33

Either way works. No big deal.

misd-agin 9th Dec 2012 03:17

737/757/767/777 done before taxi now.

Used to be during taxi. Changed maybe 3 yrs(??) ago.

de facto 9th Dec 2012 03:18

More like 5 years ago id guess.
So why the 717 and 747 still use the old procedure?

Dingersan 18th Sep 2015 18:02

DutchOne, where is the reference for that? It doesn't say anything about it in the Boeing Manual.
