G1000 Flight Planning

I thought the G1000 would let me flight plan using air routes, the same as the G480. However the G1000 available to me now will not let me do that, and only allows for waypoint navigation. Is there a version that does allow for inserting routes? Or am I just unable to flnd the feature?

Is the unit you are using IFR or VFR?

This can be the clincher on other Garmin units for such features... but I have zero knowledge of the 1000

Hello

I'm afraid not. You can't just enter the airway, you have to enter each waypoint individually.

Bah....

Rest assured that you can indeed enter the airways. I've done it several times. I haven't flown one in several months, so I can't give you exact details.

From te FPLN page, I believe you move the FMS cursor to the space BELOW the waypoint on the airway then go MENU>LD AIRWAYS.

Unfortunately, it's not entirely intuitive. I'd say check the manual in the en-route section. It is there.

FYI, there's no such thing as a VFR G1000. The unit is IFR capable and certified, and will put the avionics on all but a few modern jets to shame.

Here is a reference page describing airway entry on the G1000:

That's very helpful. I have always entered each point in turn. I should RTFM....

I believe all G-1000s have low and high altitude airways. With the world wide database option, it is the entire world.
