You could certainly feel a "rumble" from the wings, was that Mcrit over the wing being reached?
I dont think, remember reading your eco climb speed prior to reaching your opt level was Mcrit, and that your cruise eco speed was above mcrit.
I am not sure bout this, ill have to check.
Stby to be corrected in due course:ouch:.

I've been told that the NG can go much faster than 340/.82 but is limited to maintain the same type rating and commonality with the classics's. Here is an extract of a memo from my airline that would seem to back this theory a bit:

the overspeed warning or “clacker” is not in itself an exceedance but intended as an alert that one is impending. There is no requirement to make a tech. log entry unless IAS exceeds 360kt or IMN exceeds 0.84.

Interesting note. The clacker isn't set to sound right above .82 anyway, there is a little leeway. Was observing that just a couple days ago when the autopilot struggled to keep the speed in check at 0.821 pulling eventually up to 5000fpm when it dropped into altitude aquire passing FL370.

Interesting indeed. That is certainly not the attitude that my company takes.
Does anybody know the actual process the NG was certified under. Ie did they take the machine out flying and observe characteristics at high speeds or did they use computer modelling or did they just use existing figures from other models?

Autopilot only does what you let it do....

By attitude you mean 5000 ft/in rvsm approaching your cleared level at MMO?:E
