A320 or 737NG type rating

Hello guys,
i willing to do my TR private but not sure which one would be better to go, in regards to the job availability and the demand in Europe and Asia

Tu.114 18th Sep 2011 07:23

The plane You will get a job on, I would say.

I was in Your situation several years ago and briefly meditated on doing a TR on my own like some of the guys in my flight school did - it would have been either 737 or 320 as well. But on hindsight I sure am glad I did not do this, as my first type was neither of those two but the Fokker 70. Any money spent on other TRs would consequently have been burnt.

There are several colleagues I know that went the same way - they bought a TR on whatever jet type but are now flying the DH8. Happily, I might add.

I suggest A380, since there are still very few pilots with that rating.
It is clearly the TR of the future!!

Well, try 787 then, very very few pilots rated on that yet and a great number of deliveries soon, if they ever figure out how to build that plane on a reasonable schedule that is.

a320 without a doubt.

Wasn't there a boringly exhaustive thread on this very subject a month or so ago? Why is this in Tech Log?

ReverseFlight 20th Sep 2011 08:07

Avenger is right - the mods should move this thread to the "Professional Pilot Training (includes ground studies)" forum.

Why not do both type ratings, then you are twice as likely to get a job.

Also you will have twice as many experience as your competitors.:ok:

For better employment chances unfortunately you may have
to consider the Frog 320 suck-squirt.

You'd enjoy flying a Boeing and the tech school is far easier,
but at this juncture there are more vacancies out there on the
Airboos than the 737.

Slasher is correct . Despite having many happy years on the 73 / NG , a quick scan of any of the job websites will show that there are many more jobs available on the 320 worldwide , some of them with staggering pay offered. Too late for me now , but for anybody trying to make the decision , sense says 320.
