A320 safety exterior inspection

Hi,
one of the items to be checked is APU area. How should we observe that the APU inlet and outlet are clear? What the aim of this check and is it enough to check it standing at the aircraft nose or we should come to the tail and observe from beneath?

The aim is to make sure it is safe to start the APU. If you stand at the nose can you see that the APU inlet and outlet are clear?
