Rotax
Hi!!..i have a question about the generator of the rotax 912 s2..i don't know if this is the right place for this thread but i try!...
If the generator fail in flight there is a possibility(when the battery is dead)that the engine die?..i know that in a normal general aviation engine the elettrical system is separate but i listen some rumors about this engine that is different from another (lycoming-Continental)...i hope that this is not possible!! |

says it has a dual magneto system, so my guess would be that you will have ignition in case of electrical system failure. Your mileage may vary... |
However, the Rotax 914 (turbo version) does not run without electric power due to the twin electrical fuel pumps used.

Other Rotaxes should be using a pulse pump off crank case pressure. G |
Fuel consumption
Which one consumes more fuel, please?
The 912 or 914? Cheers, ###Ultra Long Hauler### |
914 is turbocharged and has a greater power output, so has unsurprisingly greater fuel consumption.
In either of-course, it'll depend far more upon the installation and the power you're drawing from it. G Rotax 914 data. Rotax 912 data. |
But those should run off the battery, for as long as that lasts anyhow. Anyhow, I have unsuccessfully tried to run my 914 without the pumps after a mishap where I unintentionally switched the pumps off. My fuel surface was perhaps 15 cm above the carburetors, but the turbo needs a fuel pressure of at least 0.25 bar above the boost pressure in the airbox. /Bengt /Bengt |
