Altitudes In Russia and other Metric countries
 

Hello,

Have tried researching this one but didn't find it.

Can anyone tell me how does Russia (and other countries using Metric altitude/elevation/height measures - which ones are they by the way?) deals with standard altitudes?

Most imperial altitudes are round, say, 1000 ft and 1500 ft ft AGL for piston and jet engines at standard traffic patterns.

En route vertical separation is usually 1000 ft, 2000 ft non-rvsm above FL290, 1000 ft with RVSM.

MDA's, DA's, DH's...

Minimum visual conditions for VFR operation at aerodromes, minimum separation from clouds in VFR flights.

All round numbers as per ICAO: 1500 ft ceiling, 1000 ft special VFR.

CAVOK ceiling being above 5000 ft.

And since we're also talking about Russia, can someone point me to a document or at least tell when did Russia became an ICAO contracting state? And why did it take so long for Russia to join ICAO, and how did flights to and from Russia were coordinated back then?

That's about it for now, thank you in advance whoever clears that up for me. (directing to documents and sources is a plus!)

I'm guessing no one here has flown in Russia?

As to ICAO, Russia (or back then USSR) was a founding member and a word ICAO appears in russian language (ИКАО) on it's logo.

Do some research on the numerous discussions and explanations about metric altitudes/heights/levels, QNH vs QFE that we did in the past in this forum. I am no longer active, but you did fail to research properly. Try the posts about QFE/Metric or under "BelArgUSA" maybe...?
