differences between a tailplane of a 737 and a seneca

Could someone explain to me the differences between the tailplane of a 737 with the stabilator of a seneca ??

I remember from my seneca training the the tailplane was all movable with what I think was a anti servo tab

From my understanding of the 737 it also is all movable but has a balance tab

Im looking at the picture of the tailplane on the 737 technical site
The Boeing 737 Technical Site

and I dont really understand which part is which. Are the balance tabs the small control surface located near the fin or the larger control surface on the trailing edge

Sorry for how basic this question may be

Thanks in advance

In simple terms (before the pedants jump in!)... The tailplane is all moving on the 737 it moves in response to pitch trim. It also has a elevators which move in response to control column inputs. It also has balance tabs which are mechanically linked to the elevators and move in response to elevator movement to assist elevator movement.

Those who have availed themselves of the further reading material will be aware that the rules change during manual reversion and with flap etc but that is the advanced lesson!

I have put an extra photograph on the page you linked to showing each piece labelled.

There is only one civil type that has the all-flying tailplane, wherein the column movement moves the entire horizontal stab, not just the elevators.
That type is....Lockheed TriStar.:)

411A, I'm going to have to challenge you on that one. How is Piper's stabilator not an "all flying tailplane"? Did you mean to say "one civil JET type"? Tell me more about the Jetstar; I realize the entire tail assembly moves for pitch trim, a la the Mooney, but does the control column directly affect the horizontal stabilizer, in addition to the elevators?

Yes.

Elevators only.

Aslan,
Some further reading for you in GAPAN news last year. See pages 16-19. In particular the postscript
