Question about approach patterns for Faro airport
 
As an avid MS Flight Sim fan I was just wondering what the standard approach pattern to Faro airport is? I asume that there must be some pilots that fly this route on here?

As far as I can tell it appears to be downwind (over the sea), is this correct?

For the ILS onto R28 the approach/area controller will give you direct to a waypoint called FR606 when routing down from the north. Generally they leave you alone to establish yourself onto the localiser unless its busy. Many take a visual approach and will "cut inside" to give themself a shorter final. One of the more straight forward airports to operate into. Haven't landed on easterlies. Its a VOR approach if memory serves me right.

You can subscribe FREE to almost every european ais/aip and most places in the world. Try a websearch using keywords iaip, ais, aip and the country you want. Some European countries like Ukraine wany money though. For the usa try a websearch for naco.faa.gov

You'll always be asked to register and be sent a password.

UK is www.ais.org.ok. Portugal is www.nav.pt/ais

Then you just consult the aip as if a paper document and download the latest plates for FREE.

FR606 the above mentioned WP is N36 59.10 W007 41.15 (and may also be shown as D101N on older charts). On your sim be at 4000ft.

Then to help you add two points. 10nm to threshold RW28 is at
N36 59.05 W007 45.25, on your sim be at 3100ft. 5nm to threshold RW28 is at N36 59.93 W007 51.40, on your sim be at 1600ft,

That should do it.

sjm - it does of course depend on from whence you came! Using FAO as a tech stop northbound a visual from the south is fine. From the north, as you have above is 'normal'. The only time I flew a visual to the south (arriving from northern climes) was when someone flew a (non-training) FULL procedural in a twin piston ahead of me on a lovely day and held EVERYONE up!
