Who's using the FMS flight ID (Mode S AC-ID) correctly?

Hi,

Just another question...
If you're flying in (or into/out of) Europe, do you always use the correct FMS flight ID (or Mode S AC-ID)? I just want to see if there is any emphasing done on this particular issue... (during training/checks or whatever...)

Thanks ...

In a word, yes. FMS groundschool 101. :ok:

Indeed, and if you don't you will certainly hear about it from ATC every so often. At least thats the case over here in germany.

once again, YES!

Required for transponders mode S and for ADS-B operations. Although not in use over europe, actually almost all recent commercial aircraft has it and I believe ATC is testing it.

...and how should the correct format be entered?

SAS0931 or SAS931?

Denti 6th Dec 2008 18:38

Do not add any leading character be it spaces or 0s if your atc callsign doesn't contain any. Just the plain atc callsign, it should be in your filed atc flightplan (if you get that info).

- and don't be surprised if an FIR boundary crossing is denied, either.

The plan is to base the radar identification of the Mode S ID instead of the mode A to reduce code shortage, But before this happens the percentage of wrong inputs needs to go down ...
Have been cases where pilots doesnt even know what mode S ID is when asked to correct it

...anyone knows how to correct a wrong inserted mode S init on an older A320 inflight? (Pegasus FMCG)

"Flight Init" on the Thales-FMCGs ones works fine, I guess.

But how about les vieux?

To change it on an A-320 depends on versions installed. Some of the newer ones let you get back into Init page A inflight so the ID can be modified.

If this function is not available you could try using the secondary plan and delete current, then redo the whole lot including INIT pages and then activate secondary. I have not tried it but have heard it done but do not know the result. There is a note of caution doing it this way as the result may not go the way you want.

The ID should be exactly as filed on the flight plan as this is what ATC insert into their system.

The way Server too busy explained is exactly the one to do it. You have to use the secondary flightplan and once you have everything entered (including the new ATC callsign on the INIT A page), you activate it. Works just fine, but can be a pain in the a... to enter everything from scratch.
