FIR Boundary Question

Is it correct that an FIR boundary is a compulsory reporting point? When flying on a route like HNL-NRT and the FIR is not a point on your flight plan, would you add the FIR as a waypoint to enable CPDLC to report it?

ADS is a sort of radar coverage by satellite communication.
The system usually reports automatically acft position every 20 seconds plus any required extra reports.
If you are CPDLC only you can add a point or perform a man pos report, but as far as you are ADS + CPDLC it is not requested to do so.

Your CFP should and your ATS FPL has to have FIR boundry times. If your CFP does not generate these, then you need to speak to your CFP provider:ugh:. Many areas have large FIRs which ignore national boundries, West Africa in the ASCENA area is a good example, National authorities still want the boundry times for the granting of non-scheduled ops permits etc.;)

Well, it depends....

Check the enroute chart for requirements. Some states require no
notice, some require five minutes, some ten minutes notice.
The "ATC" section of the Jepp manual might shed some light on this, as well.

Fly safe,
