Temperature inside cargo

Hello everybody,

just a quick question from someone's working outside flying environment :{.....

in commercial flights, is the cargo area (where luggage is kept, I mean) heated? I need to know, roughly, its temperature (or in case it is split in more parts, the criteria followed to store the luggage and the temperatures).

Thank you in advance!

Bye

Some are and some aren't , depends entirely on the make and model of aircraft in use.
Give us an idea of the route/airline you'll be using and we can best guess the model of aircraft you'll be on and go from there :ok:

The route is Tokyo - Rome, so I guess a/c could be A340 or B747...don't know if it was a DHL or a commercial flight....

thank you

Yes, cargo hold would be heated. Are you taking an animal? It would only be carried if the airline provided heating.

Your query suggests that you are considering putting some object that is temperature sensitive, inside your checked luggage. Be careful that you do not contravene the Dangerous Goods rules.

the aft cargo hold of a 744 is normally set to 20C if memory serves, but if perishable items are being carried it can be set to 5C.

340 is between 5c and 25c
