B727-276 (ex-VH-TBM/XA-SLG )engine specs
 
I am wondering If anyone knows what kind of engines were put on this airframe?

B727-276 c/n 21171-1232


As I believe there were few options as;
JT8D-9A/15/17/17R
I am just curious what thrust rating would be in this particular type installed on this airframe?

Hi SL,

That airplane had -15s,

I've got a few hundred hours operating that airplane for Australian Airlines '87 to '92, based in Melbourne.

The only pax B727s I knew of with the -17s were the Kuwaiti ones, three RPT pax airplanes, and one VIP airplane.
I also have several hundred hours on those.
When they were 'sold' to Syrian Air in '94, I was part of the crew that delivered them to Damascus, and carried out the upgrade training for the Syrian Captns and FEs.

A bit 'off question' I know, but I just had to!

Eastern Airlines had a few -225s with -17Rs used for South America. They also had nose wheel brakes too.

Thanks guys, very nice of you and I appreciate it a lot!I have a sim checkride the end of the month so this will give me some good info about the power settings...

Just for anyone who is curious where the body of this plane went? The cockpit was saved from scrap and was made into a full motion SIM I believe back in late 2005 and is now fully operational at EGHH (Bournemouth airport,UK) with European airlines and serves as Jet transition sim or as MCC training sim. Interestingly enough it still carries the VH callsign...

About 12 or so years ago EA purchased the ex Australian Airlines B727 simulator from Melbourne and installed it at Bournemouth. (I assisted with this way back then).

Are you sure that this is not the sim you refer to?

Does anyone know what became of VH-TBO and VH TBQ?

Was lucky enough to be on their delivery flights in 78 and 79 albeit as a very young fella!

I still remember watching a navigator climb up to "look out the roof for a better view" somewhere over the Pacific.

I also remember looking out some of the very aft passenger windows and seeing the engines on both sides STOPPED and running to the then open cockpit and announcing my discovery to the crew! The engineer humoured me and came back to investigate. Of course I was looking at the first row of stators but I was made to feel like I had made an important discovery! Ahh to be five again!

Years later as a first year apprentice with TN I had the pleasure of sitting in the Captains seat during a ground engine run of VH-TBQ. Was almost as misty eyed then as I am now!

These photos were taken pre-delivery in Washington. Talk about a nice colour scheme!

You are quite right of course, a typo, they are/were -17Rs.

.. memories ... although I wore a different colour, there was a period where the two companies shared freighter flying .... can't remember the exact regos but it was all great fun.

If those pictures don't make you cry you should give up flying. What great photos! Haven't even been on one since 1989 but get misty real quick about the machine and those colours.

A person very dear to me took them and the story of that photography day was one that I asked to be repeated over and over!

:{The best plane in the sky. Its a shame that Boeing quit building fun airplanes when the 727 was discontinued. What other transport plane is able to takeoff and land in 1600 meters and cruies at .88... and also a hoot to hand fly?:{
