How much does it burn ?
I'd like to know how much fuel some aircraft burn per hour ?
let say MTOW , no wind. average figure is perfect for me, i just wish to compare 777 747 340 320 ( or any type ) tks :) |

L1011, standard body or short body (-500), average 8,000kg/hr, all economy seating (-500, 309 seats, standard body aeroplane, 362 seats...400 possible with large rear doors).

B744: I'd say average is more like 11,000kg/hr. 12T at level off when heavy, 10T or less late in the flight.

Cessna 152 or other 2-seater (Skipper, Traumahawk) with 100-115hp engine - about 16Kg(6 gals.) ph 4-seat/4cyl basic flyabout (Piper Warrior/C172) - 150hp - about 22Kg(8 gals). ph 6-cylinder Saratoga or similar - about 30Kg(11 gals.) ph In small planes we tend to measure fuel in gallons, but I add Kg conversions for consistency. The medium-heavy iron burn up the equivalent of 3 small planes per hour (not 3 times the fuel - three complete airplanes fully loaded!) ;) |
For the 744, 17 T first hour, if heavy the 12 T for 5 hours then 10 T for the remainder of the flight.
10t/hour works for medium weights. |
Fuel Burn
Long-courier, as a rough rule of thumb B747 classic with full load of pax on long haul flights you can use 12000 kgs / hour average. e.g. HKG-SYD flight time average 8.5 hours, average fuel burn 102000 Kgs.

As a matter of fact, it has nothing with aircraft type - it depends on engine and engine thrust settings. Multiply SFC - Specific fuel consumption (fuel kg/or lbs per hr per kg/ or lb of thrust) with thrust settings and you'll get what the engine is burning for a given thrust settings.

exact Tofu...nevertheless as the question sounds quite basic..
for a Learjet45, about 1400 lbs/hour in cruise condition..;and the wind has nothing to do..it should be considered like a parameter wich increases or decreases the lenght of the flight...and therefore reduces or increase the Total fuel burned for the trip.. rgds |

For comparison have a turboprop!
SAAB 2000: 1st hour about 1000kg, subsequent hours 900kg. Therefore 1 hour flight = 1000kg 2* 1 hour flights = 2000kg But 1* 2hr flight = 1900kg Burn holding for departure = 400kg/hr Hope this helps?
