Winglets on Icelandair B752's
Icelandair have quite large winglets on their Boeing B752's.
This reduces induced drag by about 2-4 % ? Usually the wings have to be strengthened when winglets are added. I don't see many other B757's with winglets. Is the benefit really worth the effort ? |
The paper pushers seem to think so...

Have a look at LAX heaps of AA 757s are modified

Winglets add profiledrag and reduce induceddrag. There is allso the weight penalty. On short flights it is not worth the effort on long ones yes. The normally quoted figure is a 4 hour flight.
Finnair modified there 757īs |
Indeed, Finnair have modified their fleet - they fly over my house most days!!
I may be wrong, but I think I read that Finnair 757s operate the longest average sector length of the type. It's 6+ hours to the Canaries from here (Helsinki). |
