ND Wind Vector Indications
 

Hi all,
Could somebody kindly clarify how the systems on airbus or boeing (or any other with the facility), come up with the wind vector display on the Navigation display.
What I mean by this is where does the reading come from??
Is it through GPS comparing the Track/Heading/Groundspeed/True Airspeed??

You know in which direction the nose is pointed and your airspeed (recalculated to TAS).

The INS knows how fast you are travelling over the ground and in which direction.

The difference is the wind.

For the most part, "yes". One only needs two components, Air Data and a source of position information. With this provided information (TAS and Trk/Hdg/Gs) information and an E6B any pilot could figure the winds, the aircraft is kind enough to do it for us. The postition information can come from INS/IRS or GPS.
