FADEC
 

Just studying some abbreviations.
Is FADEC stands for Full Authority Digital ENGINE Control or Full Authority Digital ELECTRONICS Control? :confused:

Wikipedia says it is the latter and sometimes incorrectly interprited as Full Authority Digital ENGINE control but all other website says it is Full Authority Digital ENGINE Control.

Full Authority Digital Engine Control is the right answer. :)

While we're on the subject -

EGT made sense as an abbreviation for Exhaust gas temperature when is was measured at the engine's exhaust. This was once called tailpipe temperature or TPT.

However, today many (most?) engines have their temperature taken several turbine stages upstream of the exhaust, typically between the HPT and LPT, and thus several hundred degrees hotter than the tailpipe. Some aircraft call it ITT (Inter-turbine temperature) which makes great sense, but EGT is still the more common (if obsolete) label.

However,
If the manufacturer wants to call it Electronic instead of engine it's up to them.
I know of one type where the engine manufacturer calls it FAD"Engine"C and the airframer calls it "Electronic".

Whatever the ACRONYMS list in your book says then thats what you should call it. It's not something to loose sleep over. Is it?

I think it must be clear that the FADEC is not a part, it is a SYSTEM.
Let me quote again the AMM:
General
The FULL AUTHORITY DIGITAL ENGINE CONTROL (FADEC) provides full range of engine control to achieve steady state and transient engine performances when operated in combination with aircraft subsystems. The FADEC System consists of a dual channel Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and the following peripherals:
- Hydromechanical Unit (HMU)
- Dedicated Permanent Magnet Alternator (PMA)
- Variable Stator Vane (VSV) and Variable Bleed Valve (VBV)
- High Pressure Turbine Clearance (HPTC) control valve
- Low Pressure Turbine Clearance (LPTC) control valve
- Rotor Active Clearance (RAC) control Valve
- Starter Air Valve (SAV) and ignition components
- Thrust Reverser control
- Fuel return valve control
- Engine Sensors
- Electrical harness
- Burner Staging Valve (BSV)
- Engine configuration plug.
The ECU is a vibration isolated single unit mounted on the fan case, no
forced air cooling. It is a part of the basic engine equipment.
So "Engine" for the E makes more sense than "Electronical"
