Proficiency Checks

Hi,

I've been training for my CPL, and ATPL theory, for the past year and all this theory; how much do you need to know on a day to day basis? and also what do trainers ask/look for about to the proficiency checks?

With regard to IR schooling, I've heard that you need to know the DOC8168 very well, is this true?

regards,

Martin

You can never know Entry and Holding procedures well enough. The bible for this is indeed Doc 8168. Know your aircraft type technically and procedurally, know the JAR OPS pertaining to your operation, and especially make sure you know the profiles for your aircraft type and memory checklists for various normal/non normals. In winter, make sure you have revised Icing procedures, contaminated runway ops, etc. Stall warning, GPWS and Wind shear recovery, etc. TCAS traffic avoidance procedure to name a few.

I hope this gives you a steer in the right direction.

Is Doc8168 available online anywhere?

8168 is available to download from somewhere; I got a copy recently and didn't have to pay for it, but I can't remember where from. I'll have a rummage and post a link if I find it again.

Found it:
